CMES Shipping carried container homes for Turkey earthquake victims

15 March 2023 - CMES Shipping's vessel Pacific Prospect arrived in southern Turkey, carrying container homes for earthquake victims from Qatar.

On 6th February, Kahramanmaras Province in Turkey was struck by two significant earthquakes measuring 7.8 and 7.6 on the Richter scale, resulting in massive human casualties and property damage.

In an effort to aid those affected by the disaster, the Qatari government donated 10,000 container homes which served as accommodations for fans during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, to Turkey.

On 9th February, Pacific Prospect was assigned with the responsibility of transporting disaster relief supplies, and arrangements were made for crews. On 23rd February, Pacific Prospect reached Hamad Port in Qatar to commence loading of the supplies. During which, the team of Hong Kong Ming Wah Shipping, a subsidiary of CMES Shipping responsible for shore duties, diligently devised a meticulous stowage plan and established close communications with charterers and agents.

To optimize time, a new duty schedule was adopted by Pacific Prospect to align with the port's work and rest schedule. To ensure information consistency, CMES Shipping communicated seamlessly with the Captain, while monitored closely the loadings and the whole operation. All crew members were on standby around the clock, with the deck and turbine departments working in synergies to complete tasks including hoisting panels, electric welding, and the loading and securing of the container homes, all with the aim of enhancing work efficiency.

On 2nd March, by the efforts of all crew members, the shore team and the Port, Pacific Prospect efficiently completed all the loadings in Qatar and set sail for Turkey.

At 13:30 on 15th March, Pacific Prospect was fully loaded with disaster relief supplies including container homes from Qatar, and arrived Turkey smoothly, marking the accomplishment of the mission of transporting international aid supplies.

The thoughts of Pacific Prospect's crew: This voyage was of immense significance. It enabled us, as seafarers, to truly understand that shipping is a borderless bridge that connects the hearts of people across the world. We are humbled and proud to have been entrusted with the task of conveying the heartfelt compassion and love of individuals worldwide, which shines as brightly as the scorching sun, to those affected by disasters.
